Panchakarma in Delhi: who it is for and how to prepare
Dr. Khedup · 2026-09-23
Panchakarma is Ayurveda's classical cleansing programme. It is not a single massage, and it is not something to book the same afternoon as a casual spa visit. At Dr. Khedup's clinic in Majnu Ka Tilla it is offered only after a consultation, because the therapies affect digestion and are not safe for every person.
People usually ask about it for bloating, constipation, a heavy feeling after meals, or a wish to reset after a long period of irregular food and stress. The doctor looks at your health history, medicines and current symptoms before naming a therapy. The common ones on our menu are Nasya (medicine through the nose, often for sinus and head heaviness), Basti (a medicated enema used in Ayurveda to balance Vata) and Virechana (supervised purgation). Each has its own preparation and recovery diet.
Preparation matters as much as the session. You may be asked to adjust food for a few days before and after, to keep the day free, and to arrange a quiet trip home. Do not start a detox you found online and then come in halfway. Tell us about pregnancy, heart or kidney disease, diabetes, and any recent surgery. If Panchakarma is not suitable, we will say so and offer gentler options such as lymphatic drainage or Ku-Nye.
A programme can be one therapy or a short series. The length is decided in the consultation, not from a fixed package on a website. You should leave knowing what will happen, what you will feel, and what to eat afterwards. Herbal guidance, if any, is explained at the same time.
Nasya is the therapy people in the city ask about most after a blocked nose and heavy head. It is still a medical session: oil or herbal preparation in the nose after a short face massage, not a cosmetic facial. Basti and Virechana are stronger and need the preparation days. None of them is a weight-loss plan, and we will not describe them that way. If weight, skin or digestion is the concern, the consultation decides whether Panchakarma, a facial course or a simpler massage is the right start.
If your main problem is back pain or poor sleep rather than digestion, Panchakarma is often not the first treatment. Start with the condition that matches your symptoms, or message the clinic and describe it in your own words. The clinic is in Majnu Ka Tilla, so you can reach it from Kashmere Gate or Vidhan Sabha without crossing the city, which matters on a day when you are meant to rest afterwards.
